GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview, November 11-13

Veteran's Day Parade, Jerry's Girls and Bennett Park opens.

When/Where: Friday, 10 a.m. to noon. Lamb and Sutton Park, 700 10th Avenue W. Palmetto
Why go? The Veteran's Day Parade and Ceremony to honor military veterans starts near the Manatee County Fairgrounds on 13th Street and ends at Lamb and Sutton Park. The parade begins at 10 a.m. A ceremony follows the parade. Guest speakers include CDR Brad Smith, USN, retired, Congressman Vern Buchanan and Palmetto Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant. There will be activities for children, the Manatee Concert Band will provide entertainment, Slick's Garage will host a car and bike show and food will be available from the VFW Post 2488 nearby.

When/Where: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 400 Cypress Creek Blvd., near Walmart off of U.S. 64 East.
Why go? The County is cutting the ribbon for its newest park.  As part of the festivities Manatee County will host a huge party for its new 180-acre park off of State Road 64 just west of Walmart. The all day celebration includes food, music, entertainment, a sand volleyball tournament, ultimate frisbee and a salute to Veterans. Come prepared to honor veterans and to play hard. Sports demonstrations include Quidditch, Ultimate Frisbee and soccer.

JERRY'S GIRLS

When/Where: Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. Sunday at 2 p.m. at the .
Why go? This is the final weekend for the show that celebrates Jerry Herman's special gift for writing songs that capture the spirit of the American musical theatre. The two-hour show is a celebration of love, glamour, optimism, melody and women.
Pricing: Tickets are $25 for adults, $11 for students.
