Girl, 13, Threatened To Shoot Students, Staff At School

A King Middle School student faces charges for making a false report about a school shooting.

BRADENTON, FL — A 13-year-old Bradenton girl faces criminal charges after Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies say she called King Middle School early Tuesday morning and threatened to “shoot all staff and students.”

The message was left at 5:30 a.m. May 2 on the school registrar’s voicemail, according to an email from the sheriff’s office. The staff member who listened to the message told the school’s resource officer around 8:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office added.

“Patrol deputies immediately responded to the (600 75th St. N.W.) school to ensure it was safe,” the email said.

By 9:30 a.m., deputies say the girl accused of making the call was found at her home and brought into custody.

“There was no evidence that she planned or had the ability to carry out the threat,” the agency said.

Patch is not releasing the girl’s name due to her age. She was charged with filing a false report of a school shooting.
