Zika Birth Defect Risk High When Mom Has Virus: CDC
Ten percent of pregnant women with laboratory-confirmed Zika virus infections had babies or fetuses with Zika-related defects in 2016, the U.S. Centers and Disease Control and Prevention reported on Tuesday.

School Recess Bill Clears Florida Senate
Florida elementary school kids will get 20 minutes of recess time daily under a bill that cleared the Senate Tuesday. A slightly different version of the measure moving through the House, however, could prevent the proposal from reaching Gov. Rick Scott’s desk anytime soon.

Shoppers accustomed to visiting the Payless Shoesource at 8201 N. Dale Mabry Highway will have to visit nearby locations to get their fix of discount footwear from now on. The Carrollwood area store was one of about 400 slated for “immediate closing” in an announcement made by the company Tuesday.

Tampa Bay area residents are being warned of the potential for severe thunderstorms over the next day or so as a strong cold front makes its presence in the region known. The National Weather Service is also urging swimmers and small craft operators to take care on coastal waters as rough conditions are likely to persist over the next few days.
