BRADENTON, FL — Plans for a Home Depot to be built in Lakewood Ranch at the intersection of Rangeland Parkway and Lorraine Road have been scrapped, according to multiple reports.

In August, the company filed a request with Manatee County to rezone 15.86 acres at 5504 Lorraine Road, changing it from general agricultural to planned development commercial, the Bradenton Herald said.

While a pre-application meeting about the project was initially set for Friday, a representative of the company told the Bradenton Times that it was “dropping” its contract for the plans and said there were “a number of land development challenges.”

Many in the community opposed the project, creating a website against it, NoHomeDepotLWR.com.

More than 2,000 people also signed a Change.org petition against the rezoning request, citing issues including traffic, potential for flooding, light and noise pollution, environmental concerns, according to the Herald.
