Intruder Fatally Shot By Bradenton Homeowner: Manatee County Sheriff

BRADENTON, FL — An intruder was fatally shot by a Bradenton homeowner Thursday night and another home invasion suspect was arrested, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Two men entered the occupied home in the 6700 block of Hickory Hammock Circle in the River Club community just after 9 p.m. They were captured on the home’s video surveillance system going in through the rear.

The homeowner fired multiple rounds, hitting one of the intruders, while the other ran from the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The injured intruder was shot several times and initially reported to be in critical condition before being transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries Friday morning .

Deputies tracked down the other suspect, 39-year-old Michel Soto-Mella of Chile, using K9 units and arrested him a few blocks away.

Soto-Mella was charged with armed burglary. Additional charges are pending.

The deceased suspect’s identity hasn’t been confirmed.
