Irma Aftermath: Bradenton Students Will Get Shorter Thanksgiving Break For Make-up Days
Bradenton students will attend classes on Nov. 20-21 as part of changes to school calendar.

BRADENTON - The Thanksgiving holiday break got shorter by two days for Bradenton students on Wednesday as the Manatee County School Board approved school calendar changes to make up days lost to Hurricane Irma.
The school board also approved these changes to make up time lost to the storm: 10 minutes will be added to the end of the school day for all students, starting Monday, Oct. 2 through Wednesday, Dec. 20; Early release days will not be held on Oct. 4 or Dec. 6; and Thanksgiving break will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Students will attend school on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 20-21) for a full day. Those dates had already been assigned on the school calendar as hurricane make-up days.

“We realize that hurricane make-up days can cause inconveniences for students and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene. “However, it is extremely important that we make up this essential instructional time so that our students can make necessary progress this school year. Looking back we are thankful that we are adding make-up days to our school calendar as opposed to continuing to deal with damage from Hurricane Irma.”
