Man Dies After DeSoto Memorial Highway Crash

A 34-year-old man has died days after suffering critical injuries in a Bradenton crash.

BRADENTON, FL — A 34-year-old Palmetto man has died days after his BMW crashed into a tree near the DeSoto National Memorial in Bradenton.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, John Richard Niebor died on April 4. Niebor was injured in a March 31 crash along DeSoto Memorial Highway near 79th Street Northwest.

Niebor, a patrol report said, was driving a BMW north on DeSoto Memorial Highway around 10:37 p.m. As he approached the intersection with 79th Street Northwest, his car went off the road, onto the east shoulder and struck a tree.

Niebor was taken to Blake Hospital with critical injuries, but was pronounced dead April 4. The patrol released the update in the case on Thursday.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers say Niebor was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not a suspected factor, the patrol’s report noted.
