Man Drowns in Swamp Buggy Crash

The swamp buggy capsized in a pond Saturday night.

A 32-year-old passenger riding in a homemade swamp buggy in a Myakka City pond drowned Saturday night, after the vehicle overturned and sank, according to media reports.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported that James Dixon did not surface after the swamp buggy overturned in the pond off of Crosby Road, on privately owned property.

He was among a group of people riding in the swamp buggy, when the driver entered the pond, according to the Bradenton Herald.

The buggy took on water, overturned and submerged. No one else was injured.

Dixon's body was recovered by the Manatee County Sheriff's Department.
