Man Surrenders In Manatee County Video Game Slaying

A 31-year-old man is facing a murder charge in connection with the weekend slaying of a man playing video games with friends.

PALMETTO, FL -- A 31-year-old man is facing a murder charge after surrendering to Manatee County sheriff's deputies in connection with the weekend slaying of a man gunned down while playing video games with friends.

Benjamin Lang was being held without bond Monday following the Friday night shooting at 10:16 p.m.

He is accused of killing 28-year-old Benny Williams, who was gunned down outside of his home in the 1700 block of 17th Ave Drive East.

Lang surrendered at the Manatee County Jail Saturday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

"Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene, found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds and started to treat him for his injuries," the sheriff's office said. "EMS arrived on scene, took over life-saving measures, and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later died."

The sheriff's office said that the shooting was over a dispute between Williams and Lang, who was one of the six or seven people playing video games.

"According to witnesses, the shooter fired multiple shoots at the victim and then fled the scene.," the sheriff's office said.
