Wilcox “was displaying aggressive behavior, firing a gun into the air, and arguing with his girlfriend’s mother, the deceased victim Sherline White” on the night of the fatal shooting, the state attorney said.

During the argument, Wilcox pointed his gun at White while she sat in the driver’s seat of her car preparing to leave and fire eight bullets, hitting her five times and killing her instantly, Brodsky’s office said.

He was taken into custody after fleeing to Glades County and confessed to the crime.

“This was a senseless crime that should not have happened and now Ms. White’s family must bear the pain of her loss. Hopefully this life sentence will provide some comfort to them,” Suzanne O’Donnell, assistant state attorney, said.
