Manatee County Adopts Burn Ban
Manatee County has enacted a temporary burn ban as dry conditions persist in the region.

BRADENTON, FL — Manatee County has joined several others across Florida in enacting a temporary ban on outdoor burning as dry conditions continue to promote wildfire activity across the state. Manatee County Commissioners voted unanimously on Tuesday to enact the ban.
The burn ban approved on Tuesday covers a seven-day period until May 2, but is designed to be extended should dry conditions remain a concern, county officials said.

Under the county’s ban, the use of fireworks, sparklers, flares, campfires and open burning are prohibited. Residents may still use outdoor cookers and grills as long as they are attended at all times. Florida Forest Service authorized agricultural and land clearing is still permitted, as well. Violations of the ban are considered second-degree misdemeanors.
“I hope everyone is vigilant and paying attention, and I hope it rains soon,” Commission Chairwoman Betsy Benac said. “We have to be extra cautious.”
