Manatee County Corrections Deputy Dies In Palmetto Crash

The sheriff's office corrections deputy was a 4-year veteran of the department.

BRADENTON - Shaun Feverston, 28, a corrections deputy for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, was killed in a crash in Palmetto Thursday morning, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Dave Bristow.

Bristow said Feverston, a four-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was on his way home from work about 7:10 a.m. when the crash occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Feverston’s brother is a patrol deputy in the department and his father is the supervisor of the fingerprint unit, Bristow said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of 36th Avenue East (Bud Rhoden Road) and Moccasin Wallow Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports. A 2013 Ford F-250 truck pulling a trailer, driven by George C. Grigsby, 59, of Palmetto was traveling west on Moccasin Wallow Road near the intersection with Bud Rhoden Road when the driver turned left into the path of Feverston’s 2014 Jeep Wrangler, according to FHP.

The front of the truck struck the front of the Jeep, and the impact caused Feverston’s Jeep to overturn in the intersection, according to the FHP. Feverston was not wearing his seat belt.

Grigsby sustained minor injuries and was taken to Manatee Memorial for treatment. He was charged with violation of right of way, turning left in front of traffic, according to FHP reports.
