Manatee County Final Election Results Certified

BRADENTON, FL — The Manatee County supervisor of elections has certified the results from Tuesday's municipal elections with no big surprises.

Manatee County voters in Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach and Anna Maria went to the polls Tuesday. All three Manatee County cities held elections on Tuesday but only one was contested.

Voters went to the polls in Holmes Beach, Anna Maria and Bradenton Beach.

Holmes Beach

Four candidates were vying for three commission seats in Holmes Beach.

Incumbent Commissioners Rick Hurst, a youth sports coach; Jim Kihm, who held various managerial positions in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry and Carol Soustek, who was a corporate accountant, all were attempting to hold their seats.

The incumbents were challenged by Terry Schaefer, a former senior banking executive and Illinois school board member. Schaefer raised more money than any of his opponents.

Kihm garnered 662 votes while Schaefer received 609 votes. Soustek received 549 votes and Hurst received 475 votes, according to the final results.

Voters in Holmes Beach also considered multiple charter amendments.

Charter Amendment No. 1 asked whether the charter should be amended to accurately reflect all land within the corporate limits of the city.

Voters overwhelmingly voted in favor of this amendment: 773 to 90.

Charter amendment No. 2 asked whether the charter should be amended to require an ordinance "selling, vacating, conveying, transferring or abandoning city-owned real property and rights of way be approved by a super majority vote of the commission and a subsequent referendum at a general election and to require a super majority vote of the commission to lease or permit use of real property, restricting such leases or permits to five years or less?"

Voters overwhelmingly voted in favor of this amendment: 709 to 153.

Bradenton Beach

Incumbent Mayor John Chappie ran unopposed to lead the city for another term.

Incumbent Commissioner Jacob E. Spooner also ran unopposed to keep his Ward 1 seat and former Commissioner Janet E Vosburgh ran unopposed for a Ward 3 seat.

Anna Maria

Incumbent Commissioner Carol A. Carter ran unopposed for her seat on the city commission.

Anna Maria voters also considered three charter amendments. The results for Charter Amendment No. 1 were 246 yes, 33 no; Charter Amendment No. 2: yes 232, no 36; Charter Amendment No. 3: yes 239, no 29.
