Here are all the important dates families need to know about for the upcoming school year that kicks off in August.

BRADENTON, FL — While most kids might say it’s way too early to consider talking about next school year, parents know better. Those first bells will ring soon enough, and that means it’s time to start getting ready.
Parents who want to get a jump start on planning their schedules for the academic year ahead will find Patch has them covered. Here are the important dates for kids enrolled in Manatee County Schools for the 2017-18 academic year:
- First day of school – Aug. 10
- Labor Day holiday – Sept. 4
- Early release day – Sept. 6
- Early release day – Oct. 4
- End of first quarter – Oct. 12
- Non-student day – Oct. 13
- Elementary early release day – Oct. 20
- Elementary early release day – Nov. 3
- Veterans Day holiday – Nov. 10
- Thanksgiving holiday – Nov. 20-24
- Hurricane makeup days, if needed – Nov. 20-22
- Early release day – Dec. 6
- High school early release – Dec. 18-20
- End of first semester – Dec. 20
- Winter break – Dec. 21 through Jan. 5, 2018
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday – Jan. 15
- Early release day – Feb. 7
- Residents Day holiday – Feb. 19
- Early release day – March 7
- End of third quarter – March 15
- Non-student day – March 16
- Elementary early release – March 23
- Spring break – March 26-30
- Elementary early release – April 13
- Early release day – May 2
- Early release – May 25
- Memorial Day holiday – May 28
- Students’ last day – May 29 (early release)
