
Zadda Bazzy, a music teacher at Oneco Elementary School in Bradenton, is the new Educator of the Year for Manatee, the school district announced.

She won a 2013 Toyota Prius, and she also advances to the Macy's/Florida Department of Education Teacher of the Year competition. The vehicle was donated by the The Gettel Automotive Family of Dealerships

The Support Employee of the Year also was named.
He is Todd Persinger, the head custodian at Anna Maria Elementary School. He won a $5,000 dollar savings account.

Persinger will advance to the Florida school-related Employee of the Year competition.
Rick Mills, the incoming superintendent, attended the Wednesday night ceremony.
According to BayNews 9, Mills said:
"I want to be very accessible and very visible and I want to do a lot of listening from all the stakeholders on what we see as our challenges moving forward."
Mills, who is front Minnesota, officially starts on March 20.
