Manatee School District Offers Free Spring Break Lunch

Children of Manatee County 18 and under will be offered free lunch during Spring Break to make sure a healthy mind and body is maintained.

From Manatee School District: The School District of Manatee County’s Food and Nutrition Services Department will provide free lunch for children during Spring Break, from Monday, March 20, 2017 through Friday, March 24, 2017

The free meals will be offered to kids, 18 or younger, as part of the Spring Break Food Service Program.

The Food and Nutrition Services Mobile Feeding Bus will deliver the meals to three stops, rain or shine:

  • Southeast High School, located at 1200 37th Avenue East in Bradenton, from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.;
  • Bradenton Village Apartments, located at 1302 3rd Street West in Bradenton, from 12:30 p.m. – 1 p.m.;
  • Lincoln Park, located at 501 17th Street East in Palmetto, from 1:30 p.m. – 2 p.m.

This program is designed to ensure that children have access to nutrition during the time when school lunches are not available and to help ensure that their students have a healthy body and mind for the remainder of the school year. This service is not based on income status, and all children in Manatee County who are 18 and younger will be able to participate.

The Spring Break Food Service Program is part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Child Nutrition Programs. Funding for this program comes from meal reimbursements received from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Manatee County School District General Funds are not used for this program.

Many favorite school menu items will be featured on the Mobile Feeding Bus including chicken sandwiches, corn dogs, and pizza along with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The bus will have indoor and outdoor seating to allow kids to enjoy their meal in comfort of air conditioning or in the shade of an awning.
