Manatee Schools to Cut 188 Positions
The full-time positions will be eliminated for the 2013-14 school year and will save the district $10 million, according to media reports.
An ambitious school restructuing plan for Manatee County will result in the elimination of 188 full-time jobs next school year and a savings of $10 million for the district.
The Sarasota Herald Tribune is reporting that the district is planning to re-adjust class sizes and shift more reponsibility onto the remaining workers.
The School Board on Monday voted unanimously to approve the consolidation and cuts. The Manatee County School District has faced budget deficits and been forced to spend down its reserves.

Positions to be cut include:
• 96.8 Teachers
• 24 Elective Teachers
• 30.8 ESE Teachers
• 17 Custodians
• 2 Elementary Media Specialists
• 44 Teacher Aides
• 7 Speech Therapists
The school district, at the same time, will add the following positions:
• 22 Technology Assistants
• 8 Parent Liaisons
• 3.2 AVID Teachers
