Our Troops: U.S. Army Spc. Colin Thompson

Shining the spotlight on Bradenton-area troops

Name: Spc. Colin Thompson, U.S. Army.

Age: 22.

His story: Thompson had nearly completed two years at State College of Florida when he told his mom he wanted to join the Army. His  mother Rebecca Cotogno said he was firm in his decision to join the Army. She said she asked a lot of questions about his decision and was convinced that he had done his homework and thoroughly researched his decision. Thompson enlisted as a Cavalry Scout, considered the eyes and ears on the battlefield. He did his training at Fort Knox. He was then stationed in Hawaii in the spring and two weeks later left for Afghanistan. He recently came home for a two week R & R break where his family celebrated his 22nd birthday a little early. Thompson recently returned to Shinwar in the Nangahar province of Afghanistan.
