UPDATE: Bridge Jumper's Body Recovered

The motorist apparently jumped off the bridge Wednesday after slamming his vehicle into the span's wall several times.

Law enforcement officials recovered the body of a man who jumped off the DeSoto Bridge on Wednesday, the Bradenton Herald reports.

Palmetto Police Deputy Chief Scott Tyler told the Herald on Thursday that further information about the individual would not be released at that time. release any additional information about the individual at this time.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that witnesses contacted police after the incident occurred during the afternoon rush hour on the span connecting Bradenton and Palmetto.

Witnesses reported that the man seemed to be trying to run his vehicle over the bridge as he rammed it against the wall prior to jumping over the bridge.

In addition to Palmetto Police, the Manatee County Sheriff and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene.
