Romney Wins Nearly Half of Manatee Votes

With 119 of 124 precincts counted, Romney is the decisive winner.

Newt Gingrich came to Manatee County last week to fire up his supporters. Nearly 5,000 people came out to hear what the Republican candidate had to say.

By Tuesday they had made up their minds.

Gingrich fell short of winning the support he needed in Manatee County to help him take the state.

Manatee County voters were more aligned with state voters than perhaps anyone suspected. With 23 percent of the state counted Romney took 49 percent of the vote and Gingrich had just 30 percent.

In Manatee County with 119 of 124 precincts counted Romney took 48 percent of the Manatee county votes. Gingrich trailed with just 27 percent of the votes. Rick Santorum took third place with just over 16 percent of the vote in Manatee County.
