SWAT Team Called to Windmill Village
Deputies were on scene at the mobile home park much of the day after a 76-year-old resident allegedly threatened officers.

Bayshore Windmill Village Mobile Home Park was under siege all day Thursday after a 76-year-old man became extremely agitated after trying to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office against a Sarasota nursing home.
Gene Vashon called the state office to file a complaint Thursday morning. During the call he became agitated and made suicidal threats and said he would shoot police if they came to his home, according to a report from the sheriff's office.
Deputies were sent to check on Vashon and his ex-wife Magella Vashon, who is disabled and lives with him. When they arrived at the mobile home park, deputies attempted to make contact with Vashon but were unsuccessful as he continued to threaten to shoot them, according to the report.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for resisting arrest with violence as negotiations continued. According to the report, shortly before 7 p.m. and after extensive negotiations Vashon came out of his house and surrendered, ending the standoff.
Deputies took him to the Manatee County jail. No one was injured.
