Will Salvation Army Family Store Reopen?

The Bradenton Salvation Army thrift store is looking for another site.

The Salvation Army Family Store, at 2415 14th St. W., in Bradenton is closed – perhaps for good.

The nonprofit had struggled at its location and hoped to find a new site, according to Bradenton.com. When the Salvation Army could not relocate, it shut down on Saturday, April 20.

  • The good news is that the Salvation Army will still pick up donated items.  Call 1-800-SA-TRUCK or visit www.SalArmySuncoast.org to schedule an appointment. But customers are being referred to the Sarasota Salvation Army.
  • In addition, the Salvation Army Suncoast Area has an eBay site that is quite popular with users. It launched last October. It's called the SalvationArmySaintPetersburg, and gets a lot of stars from users.

Still, the Bradenton store will be missed by locals. For bargain hunters, the thrift store was the place to go for deep discounts. For folks on a tight budget, it was the place to find clothes for the kids and adults.

Area Salvation Army Family Stores use their revenues to fund services at the Adult Rehabilitation Center in St. Petersburg. The program offers help to adult men with their basic day-to-day needs. But it is funded solely on donations, according to Bradenton.com.

"We are looking for another location in Bradenton and our Adult Rehabilitation Center continues to assist men in the area with our rehabilitation program," was the message on the Salvation Army's Facebook page.

It is referring customers to the Salvation Army in Sarasota.
