Woman, Child On Bicycle Injured In Manatee Crash: FL Highway Patrol

A car leaving a driveway in Manatee County hit a woman and an 8-year-old boy riding the same bicycle Tuesday, FL Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A woman and an 8-year-old boy riding the same bicycle were injured after being hit by a car Tuesday morning in Manatee County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

A vehicle was stopped for traffic on State Road 70 East (53rd Avenue East) while facing south in the driveway access of a home on the road around 8:20 a.m.

The bicyclists, heading east on the north sidewalk of SR 70, entered the driveway directly in front of the vehicle, FHP said.

The vehicle failed to yield to the bicyclists and hit them, the agency said.

The woman and child were brought to Bayshore Gardens Emergency Room with minor injuries. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The driver was charged with having an expired driver’s license and failing to yield from the driveway access to the pedestrians.
