Woman Shot When Dropped Gun Goes Off In Vehicle
A Thursday afternoon shooting in Bradenton is under investigation by Manatee County deputies.

BRADENTON, FL — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that sent a woman to the hospital Thursday afternoon.
According to the sheriff’s office, Amaris Peralta, 26, and Jimmy Hernandez-Pantojo, 19, were driving in the 5200 block of 14th Street West just after 12:30 p.m. April 13. The two, an email from the sheriff’s office said, were on their way to go shoot their firearms.

Deputies say Hernandez-Pantojo was handling a firearm inside the vehicle when it dropped into his lap and went off. The bullet struck Peralta in the left side, the email said.
The two went to a local hospital to seek treatment for Peralta’s injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Peralta’s injury is believed to be not life threatening.

No further information is being released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing. Deputies have described the shooting as accidental.
