Woman Who Fled With 2-Year-Old Daughter After FL Walmart Theft Arrested

A woman who fled from deputies with her 2-year-old daughter during a Walmart theft investigation was arrested, Manatee County sheriff said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A woman who fled from Manatee County deputies with her 2-year-old after a theft investigation at a Bradenton Walmart, has been arrested, authorities said.

Courtney Stanley, 27, sped away from the Walmart at 6225 State Road 64 East on Aug. 5 with her child, Amara, unrestrained in the vehicle, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

While driving away, she knocked a deputy to the ground and avoided arrest.

During her week-long evasion of law enforcement, MCSO detectives learned that Stanley was in Illinois before she returned to Florida.

She was arrested Tuesday evening in Hillsborough County, the sheriff’s office said. Amara is safely in custody with the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Stanley was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude, petit theft with two prior convictions, child abuse without bodily harm, child neglect without bodily harm, obstruction and resisting without violence.
