"We want everyone to feel safe when they come to the beach, or anywhere in Clearwater," Slaughter said. "While violent crime is lower in Clearwater than other places, unfortunately, it is not completely immune to the increase in violent crime being seen across the country."
Slaughter said the arrest was made possible through the use of the police department's Camera Registry Program.
Clearwater police are building an interactive map of security cameras in Clearwater that allow them to review video evidence of a crime more quickly.
Police are asking businesses and homes with surveillance video cameras to register them with Clearwater police.

Slaughter noted that the camera feed will only be accessible to Clearwater police and permission will not allow police access to a homeowner or business owner's live video stream.
It lets investigators know a camera is located at the home or business so they can request video evidence should a crime occur, Slaughter said.
He said access to a business video surveillance feed allowed detectives to identity the two shooters in Tuesday night's fatal shooting.
Those with surveillance cameras can register them here.
Police said Johnathan Stanley, 20, seen wearing a sideways baseball cap and another man seen in a white T-shirt were responsible for the fatal shooting.
