Arrests Made in Teen's Accidental Shooting

Two Clearwater teens were arrested and charged with felonies in connection with the accidental shooting of Ryan Greenlee Aug. 2, according to Clearwater Police.

Two Clearwater teens who were involved in the accidental shooting of a friend in August were arrested and charged with multiple felonies Thursday.

Taylor Alexa Compton and some friends were playing with a gun when she shot Ryan Greenlee with the stolen weapon Aug. 2, according to investigators.

"She told detectives she intended to scare him and did not know the gun was loaded," according to a release.

The gun was stolen from an unlocked vehicle sometime between 2 p.m. Aug. 1 and 11 a.m. Aug. 2 on the 1200 block of Highland Avenue, according to Clearwater Police.

Compton, 13, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse, burglary, grand theft of a firearm and dealing in stolen property.

Justin Tyler Hemphill, 15, was arrested and charged with armed burglary, grand theft of a firearm and dealing in stolen property.

The teens' names are being released because the charges are felonies, according to police.

Greenlee, 15, sustained life-threatening injuries after the Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun went off.
