CLEARWATER, FL — After being closed for nearly four months, the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., reopened to the public Tuesday at 10 a.m., according to a Clearwater news release.

The library has been closed since Sept. 6, when a fire sprinkler pipe failed, soaking about 16,000 books. This caused “a significant amount of water to flow into the building from the third-floor ceiling of the library’s south end,” the city said.

The books affected were taken offsite for treatment and to be dried out. Most of those treated were able to be saved.

The building and fire sprinkler system have also been repaired. New drywall has been installed, the carpets have been cleaned and the walls have been painted, the city said.

With the library’s reopening, patrons now once again have access to its collection, and can pick up materials that have been placed on hold and return materials to outside book drops.
