Clearwater Shooting Victim Knew Shooter, Police Say

A 50-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a Saturday night shooting.

CLEARWATER, FL — The Clearwater Police Department is investigating a Saturday night shooting that left a 50-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the incident occurred in the 1500 block of South Madison Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4. The victim suffered life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.

The victim has been identified as Ugenio Cortez. Police say Cortez and the shooter knew each other. “This was not a random act,” an email from the agency said.

The circumstances that led to the shooting have not been released by police. A suspect has also not been named, nor has an arrest been announced.
