Clearwater Woman Dies In 'Apparent Drowning,' Police Say
An 89-year-old woman was found dead in a backyard pool Wednesday morning.

CLEARWATER, FL — The Clearwater Police Department is investigating an apparent Wednesday morning drowning that claimed the life of an 89-year-old woman.
According to the agency, police and fire rescue crews were called to the 1700 block of St. Croix Drive just before 10 a.m. Jan. 18. When they arrived, they found an elderly woman floating and unresponsive in a backyard pool.
The first fire medics on the scene attempted lifesaving measures, but were unsuccessful, an email from the agency said.

“The woman had been sitting in a chair near the pool; her caretaker found her in the water a short time later,” the email said.
The woman’s cause of death is now under investigation by the medical examiner’s office, police said. She has been identified as Mary Debord.
