Clearwater Woman Gets Prison Time For Student Loan Fraud

Shaneva Boyd, 30, was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $77,000 in restitution, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

A Clearwater woman was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $77,000 in restitution Tuesday after she was found guilty of committing student financial aid fraud, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Shaneva Boyd, 30, was also sentenced to serve three years of supervised release when her prison term ends, the newspaper reports.

According to the Times, prosecutors said Boyd and her husband, James Isaac Boyd, 40, formed a business that claimed it would help students apply for financial aid. Instead, they assisted customers who had not graduated high school submit false statements on applications to receive federal aid.

The Times reports:

The couple then had checks sent to addresses associated with their company and kept a substantial cut for themselves, prosecutors said.
