A Tennessee woman faces charges after leaving her dog locked in a hot car at the Pier 60 lot on Clearwater Beach, police said.

CLEARWATER, FL — A dog was rescued after being locked in a hot car on Clearwater Beach earlier this month.
Clearwater police shared video footage of the pooch being rescued from the vehicle, which was parked in the Pier 60 lot while his owner went to the beach, on May 21. (Watch the video below.)
The dog was left with the windows “cracked only slightly,” police wrote in a Facebook post.

By the time officers responded to the car, only a little water was left inside for the pup.
Officers broke the window to access the dog, who had been on its side, “barely moving and panting,” police said.

At the time, temperatures outside hit 89 degrees with high humidity.
Marie Rutherford, 40, of Nashville, Tennessee, admitted to being the dog’s owner, Fox 13 reported. She was charged with animal cruelty.
Rutherford had paid for more than two hours of parking and officers were made aware of the dog about 30 to 40 minutes into that, police said.
The dog was checked out at a local vet and then released to the care of Pinellas County Animal Control.
“Don't ever leave your pet or your child locked in a hot car,” police said.
