Driver Hits Homes and Mailbox Causing More Than $15,000 in Damage

A man crashed through multiple properties and a mailbox causing more than $15,000 in damage in the Bellrose Park subdivision Friday night.

A man crashed through multiple properties and a mailbox causing more than $15,000 in damage in the Bellrose Park subdivision Friday night.

Michael L. Richardson lost control of a black 2000 Honda Passport, destroyed a mailbox and crashed through two homes on the 1600 block of Bellrose Drive North around 6:08 p.m., according to Clearwater Police.

Richardson, 34, crashed into the southwest corner of 1650 Bellrose Drive North, then reversed, backing over the lawn and driveway before heading eastbound causing about $7,500 in damage to the unoccupied home, according to investigators.

Richardson still did not have control of the vehicle as he crashed into the mailbox at 1657 Bellrose Drive North causing about $200 damage. He continued, in reverse, eastbound hopping a curb at 1668 Bellrose Drive North before crashing into a southeast section of the home.

The SUV came to a stop on top of a concrete garden in an unoccupied bedroom which caused about $7,500 in damage to the unoccupied home, according to police.

Richardson was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues and charges are pending, according to police.
