Gas Leak Prompted Clearwater Road Closing
Motorists were being asked to steer clear of a section of Hercules Avenue Monday afternoon.

CLEARWATER, FL — A gas leak in Clearwater that forced the closing of a stretch of Hercules Avenue has been repaired, according to the city.
Earlier: According to the city, the road remained closed late Monday morning between Palmetto and Marilyn streets and was expected to remain so for a while longer.
The leak was reported Monday morning on the west side of Hercules. Fire crews remained on the scene as of 11:30 a.m. as workers from Clearwater Gas completed repairs to a 4-inch line.

“No injuries have been reported, and no evacuation has been necessary,” the city wrote in an email to media.
The city said repairs could take several more hours, “into the middle of the afternoon.”

As those repairs are being made, motorists are asked to use Keene Road and Belcher Road as alternatives to Hercules Avenue.
