Holiday Shopping Reaches Fever Pitch

A special sneaker and a 24-hour marathon at Toys R' Us leads to long lines and jammed parking lots.

The line at the began forming at 4:30 this morning, and it wasn't filled with people clamoring for a must-have toy or a last-minute sitting with Santa.

No these shoppers were waiting for the latest edition of the Air Jordan sneaker, the Retro 11 Concord, to be released.

And judging by the crowds, it was the hot item to get a hold of for some this holiday season.

"We had 35 pairs available, and they sold out in ten minutes," Brandon, an employee at the Foot Action in the mall, said. "When people realized we were sold out, they started getting angry and almost throwing things."

"It felt like the whole store was shaking."

At the across the mall, there was a similar frenzy reported.

One employee, who wished to remain anonymous due to company policy, said they only had 17 pairs of the $180 shoe on hand, and when people started coming from other stores looking for it at his location, the police had to be called to quell the sneaker-crazed crowd.

"There were about 50 people lined up outside the store when we opened, and after that there had to be a hundred people trying to get in here and get that shoe."

"It was crazy," the employee said.

Reports have been circulating regarding the frenzy the shoe has generated all over the country, and the limited edition sneaker is already selling for hundreds of dollars over reatil on eBay.

Over across US 19 at , things were a little more subdued, but lines were still long and shelves were starting to get bare, thanks to a 24-hour marathon sale the toy distributor was having.

Angry Birds products, video games and Barbies were resting in the carts of many shoppers.

Despite the long lines and scarcity of certain items, some shoppers were able to get the gifts they wanted, if just barely.

"I came for the Kindle Fire and the XBOX Kinect, and I got them both," Clearwater resident Megan Watson said. "But I got the last Kindle, so I was happy."

Asked what it was like inside the store, Watson simply replied, "Crazy."
