Man Accused Of Sexually Battering Girl, 5, Extradited From Mexico

Pinellas County deputies have announced an arrest in a November sexual battery that sent a 5-year-old girl to the hospital.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — A 42-year-old Mexican man has been extradited back to Pinellas County to face two counts of capital sexual battery involving a 5-year-old girl.

Domingo Maye’s arrest and extradition were announced by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. Deputies say Maye was returned to the United States on Feb. 1.

The charges against Maye stem from a November 2015 incident involving a 5-year-old girl. Detectives say they were called to a local hospital after the girl, who is now 6, was brought in “with injuries consistent with a sexual battery.”

The girl, a Thursday email from the sheriff’s office said, told her mother she had “inappropriate sexual activity” with Maye. The girl and Maye knew each other before the alleged incident occurred, the sheriff’s office noted.

When detectives tried to speak with Maye following the 2015 incident, they learned “he had fled to his hometown near Mexico City, Mexico,” the email said. A warrant for Maye’s arrest was issued in Pinellas County.

Maye was ultimately located with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the sheriff’s office said. “Detectives were able to contact Maye and convince him to surrender to FBI agents in Mexico City,” which he did on Wednesday.

After returning to Pinellas County, the sheriff’s office said Maye was questioned and “confessed to the sexual battery allegations.”

Maye was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on two counts of capital sexual battery on a child under 12. He was being held Thursday without bond.

Deputies have not said where in Pinellas County the alleged incident occurred.
