North Greenwood Park Named After Community Leader
A parking lot near Jack Russell Stadium will be named in honor of Rev. Walter C. Campbell.
It might be Tampa Bay Buccaneers Field but it is in a neighborhood galvinized by community leader Rev. Walter C. Campbell.
That is why city leaders unanimously approved naming a Jack Russell Stadium parking lot near new multi use fields to Walter C. Campbell Sr. Park at the their meeting Thursday.
Members of Clearwater's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board asked to rename the lot, which borders Palmetto Street; Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue; and Phillies Drive, in honor of Campbell, after the name was suggested at a public meeting in October.

The advisory board held the meeting where about five members of the public, all related to the Campbell family, offered names. Only one was pitched.
The lot is near the North Greenwood Recreation and Aquatics Complex and will be part of a future multi-use field. An adjacent field already was dedicated with the help from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in September.

The $300,000 cost for the field in Clearwater's hardscrabble North Greenwood neighborhood is partially funded through a grant from the NFL and Clearwater for Youth.
