Officers Awarded for Life-or-Death Decision Making

Police Chief Anthony Holloway recognized several officers for their bravery and commitment to the community during an awards ceremony Aug. 9.
Sgt. Thomas Donnelly:
Donnelly was awarded the Medal of Valor for helping two women whose vehicle caught fire following a crash. He removed the passenger from the burning vehicle and then stayed with the driver, who was trapped. As the fire moved into the vehicle's cabin, he put himself in harm's way to keep her calm until another officer could use a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. Officer Jason Lambe received a Letter of Commendation for extinguishing the fire.

Officer Kevin Klein:
Klein was awarded the Medal of Distinguished service for disarming a juvenile who was threatening to commit suicide. His skill and compassion during a volatile situation prevented the juvenile from hurting herself or anyone else.
Officers Brian Tejera and Maria Pita:

Tejera and Pita were awarded the Medal of Meritorious Service for their response to a suicide attempt. The officers found a woman suspended mid-air as she tried to hang herself from a ceiling fan. They held her up and cut the electrical cord, releasing the woman before she took her last breath.
During the ceremony, Cpl. Daniel Rozzi and Cpl. Benjamin Hailey were
also recognized for their recent assignment to the position of corporal.
