CLEARWATER, FL — Instead of arresting two hungry teens accused of shoplifting at a Dollar Tree on Missouri Avenue, two officers bought them Publix sub sandwiches, the Clearwater Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

When Officer Walser and Officer Perry responded to the store to investigate the shoplifting call, they met the teens and learned they were living in a group home. The kids had stolen food from the store because they “were just hungry,” police said.

The officers brought them to the nearby Publix and bought them sandwiches with their own money.
