Paul Comini named Outstanding Police Officer of the Year
Clearwater Police officer Paul Comini saved a man from jumping over the Memorial Causeway bridge. He was honored with the Joseph F. Cornelius Family Foundation Outstanding Police Officer of the Year Award.
A Clearwater Police officer who saved a suicidal man from jumping over the Memorial Causeway bridge was recognized as the Outstanding Police Officer of the Year by the Joseph F. Cornelius Family Foundation.
Paul Comini struggled with the man, gripping his arm as he tried to jump from the bridge. He held the man over the railing as back-up arrived to help him pull the man to safety.
Comini also will get a day off with pay.

"I guess you weren't kidding around that day," Comini said jokingly to chief Tony Holloway as he received the award Wednesday.
This is the 34th year of the award that recognizes heroic behavior that goes above the call of duty.

More than 100 people including Mayor Frank Hibbard were at the banquet.
