Pet Supplies Plus Has Grand Opening This Weekend

The newest branch of Pet Supplies Plus is having its grand opening this weekend, and there will be a host of contests, games and activities on the agenda, some geared toward pets and others for pet owners.

The 9,750-square-foot store, located at McMullen Booth Road and State Road 590 in the Bayside Bridge Plaza, features almost everything you could ever want for your pet, including food, toys and housing. It also offers grooming services and a pet ID tag maker.

“We try to have something for everybody,” store staff manager Shannon Donnelly said before the big weekend event. “If you’re looking for something for your pet, chances are we’ve got it.” 

According to assistant store manager Brandee Gerhart, some of the events planned for the weekend include holiday pet photos for $8 per sitting, appearances by local animal rescue groups, face painting, a pizza giveaway and raffles. 

“Through the month of December, if you sign up for a Club Card, you will be entered in a raffle to win a flat screen TV and Blu-Ray DVD player,” Donnelly said of the store's free member rewards program. “And if you buy any Merrick pet products, you’ll be eligible to win a free grill."

Here is a complete rundown of the weekend events, according to the Pet Supplies Plus website:

• 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Get a holiday photo with your pet from Laura Allen Studio Photography
• 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: 50 percent off any full-service groom (call for appointment)
• 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: Free nail trimming for dogs and cats
• 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Meet and greet adoptable animals from local rescue organizations
• 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (Saturday only): Meet and greet the Clearwater Police Department K9 unit and community liaison officer
• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Pets n’ People Pizza Parties, including specially designed pizza for dogs only
• 11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Kids' face painting, magic and balloon art with Wags the Clown
• All day: Raffles for Pet Supplies Plus gift cards and a year’s supply of free dog or cat food
