Police Officer Injured in Head-On Crash with Woman
Police suspect a driver involved in the crash may have been impaired.

A police officer and a woman are injured after a head-on crash on Myrtle Avenue near Laura Street late Friday, authorities report.
Rose Mary Mency, 48, of St. Petersburg was driving southbound in a 2009 Chevrolet on Myrtle Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Saturday.
Officer M. Anderson, driving his 2006 Ford Clearwater police cruiser northbound on Myrtle Avenue, collided with Mency head-on as she attempted to turn across traffic into the parking lot, 814 Cleveland St, authorities report.

Mency was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with what rescuers believed to be life-threatening injuries. Her injuries, however, were later downgraded to non-life-threatening, police report.
Anderson was taken to Morton Plant Mease Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released.

Both vehicles were totaled.
Police believe Mency may have been driving while impaired; results of a blood analysis are pending.
