FL Winner Of $1.6B Mega Millions Jackpot Claims Money, Still Unknown
The winner of the record-breaking $1.6B Mega Millions jackpot from August is Saltines Holdings, LLC, the Florida Lottery said Wednesday.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — The winner of the record-breaking $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot in the Aug. 8 drawing came forward in north Florida to claim the prize, according to the Florida Lottery, but the person's name is still unknown..
The prize surpassed the previous record of $1.537 billion, won in South Carolina on Oct. 23, 2018, Patch previously reported.
The winner, registered as Saltines Holdings, LLC, chose to receive the winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of more than $794 million, Florida Lottery said in a news release.

By claiming the prize using a corporation, the Mega Millions winner does not have to reveal their identity, WFLA reported. In Florida, the name of the owner of an LLC is a matter of public record, but the winner of the jackpot filed the LLC in Delaware, a state where the owner of an LLC is not public.
The winning Quick Pick ticket, which matched all five of the white ball numbers and the Mega Ball number, was claimed at lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

The ticket was sold at a Neptune Beach Publix at 630 Atlantic Blvd. The store will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
This particular jackpot drawing contributed $73.4 million to the Florida education system. Overall, since the state joined Mega Millions in 2013, the game has generated more than $1.1 billion for education.
