Hundreds Drive Evs, Ride Ebikes at JEA Drive Electric Event
JEA hosted its first National Drive Electric Week event in Jacksonville on Oct. 2.
Hundreds of guests turned out to test drive electric vehicles, ride ebikes and learn about the benefits of going electric at the JEA Drive Electric ride-and-drive event in Jacksonville on Oct. 2.
JEA hosted its first National Drive Electric Week event in collaboration with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, North Florida Transportation Planning Organization and the North Florida Clean Fuels Coalition at the Museum of Science and History. National Drive Electric Week – Sept. 25 - Oct 3, 2021 -- is a nationwide celebration to raise awareness of the many benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Compared to gas-powered vehicles, electric vehicles are cheaper and simpler to maintain and cost less to operate. Electric vehicles also significantly reduce carbon emissions.
JEA Managing Director & CEO Jay Stowe attended and took a test drive of the VW ID.4 electric vehicle. He thanked the event partners for joining JEA in its commitment to energy conservation and reducing air emissions in Jacksonville.

“Our mission at JEA is to build community in Jacksonville. And hosting this type of event helps us build a healthier, more resilient community,” Stowe said.
On Oct. 1, JEA launched a new incentive to electric vehicle owners, a special rebate for those who charge their vehicles during off-peak hours (evenings and weekends). Throughout a year, the rebates could cover the electricity needed to drive up to 2,000 miles per year.
