Jacksonville senior living center residents say they're braving bitter cold with no heat (actionnewsjax.com) — Residents at Jacksonville’s Riverton Tower Senior Center say they’re enduring bitter cold without reliable heat, while also dealing with elevator problems and mold concerns in the decades-old high-rise. The Jacksonville-based nonprofit owner, Ability Housing, says it’s providing portable heaters and working to repair or replace the building’s HVAC system, but can’t yet give a repair timeline, leaving vulnerable seniors worried and frustrated.
   

2. Food truck community rallies behind family of trailer stolen on Christmas, launches GoFundMe (news4jax.com) — A Jacksonville food truck owner is scrambling to rebuild his livelihood after the Perla Del Norte trailer was stolen from its usual Northside spot between Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Fellow food truck operators have launched a GoFundMe and a Trout River Food Park owner is offering a reward, while Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigates and the family seeks tips from the community.
   

3. Family of warrant suspect says friend ‘didn't need to die' in Oceanway officer-involved shooting (firstcoastnews.com) — Jacksonville police fatally shot a driver during a high-risk warrant arrest in the Oceanway area, and a family friend is now questioning officers’ use of deadly force. Investigators say the man fought an officer and pulled a gun, while witnesses insist he had his hands visible. The case is under scrutiny as locals debate police tactics and training.
   

4. Jonas Brothers close out Daily's Place concerts as venue closes for two-year renovation (firstcoastnews.com) — Daily’s Place in downtown Jacksonville has closed for about two years as part of the Jaguars’ “Stadium of the Future” renovation, with the Jonas Brothers headlining its final show. Since opening in 2017, the amphitheater has hosted thousands of local fans and supported nearby small businesses, which now face a pause in concert traffic until the venue’s expected reopening around mid-2028.
   

5. ‘Self-certification has to go,' FMCSA leader says (safetyandhealthmagazine.com) — Jacksonville transportation professionals heard directly from the new FMCSA chief that federal regulators plan to end “self-certification” for truck driver training schools, logging devices, and medical reviewers. Speaking to the Transportation Club of Jacksonville, he detailed crackdowns on noncompliant schools and devices and highlighted stricter English proficiency enforcement for truckers, saying the ultimate goal is safer highways.
