Off-Duty Pinellas Sergeant Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

The victim was identified as Sgt. Michael Borland, 44, who had worked for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office since July 1996.

LARGO,FL - Pinellas sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of an off-duty sergeant who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Sgt. Michael Borland, 44, who had worked for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office since July 1996.

Borland’s body was found about 9 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the St. Petersburg College- Veterinary Technology Center, 12376 Ulmerton Road, Largo.

Detectives say Borland was found dead next to his cruiser. The death is considered a suicide.

Borland worked at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Patrol Operations Bureau. Borland is survived by his wife who is a sergeant at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
