Largo Brewmaster Starts Craft Brewing Company on John's Pass

The wine master behind The Florida Winery's award winning wines is tapping into his true passion: beer.

Matthew Powers, of Largo, says The Florida Winery, at Johns Pass, is expanding and creating Mad Beach Craft Brew Company. Once the expansion is complete, guests will be able to sample everything from orange blossom honey to a passion fruit or coconut lager — or anything else they brew up.

"We go against the tradition," Powers said. "There's no rules, we just do it the way we want."

Powers, the brewmaster, is brewing test batches, which can't be sold just yet. He says it'll probably take a year before the brewery is up and running.

Even though it'll be a while before their one-of-a-kind beers are ready for sale, Mad Beach Craft Brew Company has nearly 3,500 fans on Facebook.

"We're building the brand," he said.
