LARGO, FL — A 20-year-old Largo man is dead following a two-vehicle crash on the Gandy Boulevard Tuesday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jan G. Melendez-Miranda of Largo was riding a Yamaha motorcycle “at a high rate of speed” west on the inside lane of Gandy Boulevard just before 11 p.m. April 25. As Melendez-Miranda moved east of San Fernando Boulevard, troopers say his bike overtook a Honda CRV driven by Eric Michael Guntert, 18, of Tampa.

Melendez-Miranda’s bike struck the rear of the Honda, throwing him from the bike, a highway patrol report said. The motorcycle then erupted into flames.
After the impact, Guntert’s CRV rotated and hit an inside concrete barrier wall. Guntert and his passenger, however, were not injured, the patrol reported.
