Pit Bull Shot, Killed After Largo Attack
A pit bull was shot several times Saturday morning after Largo Police say it attacked a woman and her small dog.

LARGO, FL — A pit bull is dead and a woman and her small dog are injured following a Saturday attack in Largo.
According to the Largo Police Department, officers were called out to a home in the 130 block of 10th Avenue Southwest just before 11:30 a.m. June 3. When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from multiple puncture wounds.
Police say the woman was outside in her yard with her small dog when a neighbor’s 70-pound pit bull got loose. The pit bull reportedly attempted to attack the woman’s small dog, but the woman stepped in to try and protect her pet.

The woman was “bit 8 to 9 times by the pit bull,” an email from the police department said.

At that point, the woman’s husband heard screaming and ran outside to find the dog attacking his pet. The man tried to get the pit bull to let go of his dog, but was unsuccessful, police said.
The man went back inside his home, got a .38 caliber handgun and came back outside.
Neighbors had gathered at that point and tried to get the pit bull to let go of the small dog, police wrote. Their attempts were also unsuccessful.
“The husband then shot the pit bull twice at which time the pit bull released (the small dog),” the email said.
It was after the shots were fired, officers arrived on the scene and found the “pit bull was barely alive and suffering.”
Police said the owner of the pit bull had arrived on the scene and gave permission for “officers to end the suffering of the dog.”
The area was cleared, police said, and the dog was euthanized.
Police say the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The couple’s dog was taken to a vet. Its condition is not readily available. Police are not identifying the people involved.
No charges have been announced. Further information is not being released at this time.
