Police: Man Returns After Fight, Flees Again, Throws Drugs on Ground

A St. Petersburg man returned to a Largo neighborhood a week after he got into a fight and injured two people, according to Largo Police. This time, they say, he had marijuana and cocaine.

A week after allegedly getting into a fight that left two people injured, police arrested a man who they say returned to the same Largo neighborhood a week later, this time with drugs.

According to Largo Police, Calvin Donnell Swain, 20, of St. Petersburg, failed to initially stop for police early Wednesday morning when they attempted to pull him over at the intersection of South Pines and Tall Pines drive.

Then, they say, he ran out of his car and threw a bag with a "leafy green substance" and another bag with a "white rock substance" on the ground before he was taken into custody. Presumptive tests of the substances showed they were marijuana and cocaine, officials said.

Swain told police he did not see their lights when they tried to pull him over because of the fog and that he could not hear the siren because of his music, according to the report. Police also found he did not have a valid drivers license.

Swain had been wanted by authorities on two charges of felony battery stemming from an incident that happened one week earlier on South Pines Drive.

Police allege that on the night before Thanksgiving, Swain got into an argument with a woman after she asked him to be quiet. During the argument, Swain allegedly struck the woman on the left side of her face, according to an arrest affidavit.

Next Swain reportedly got into a fight with the woman's boyfriend, grabbing the man by the neck with his hands. "The vic(tim) sustained injuries to his neck, which were consistent with the allegation," according to the police report.

Swain was arrested Nov. 28 and awaiting trial at Pinellas County Jail. He is facing charges of possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, no valid driver's license, fleeing and eluding police officer and felony battery with a prior conviction (two counts).
